Every shape we grow is available across our core species, so the choice of form is really a choice of character. Starting out? Topiary balls are the forgiving classic — one confident trim a year holds the sphere — and pencil trees give the most height for the least money and footprint, our entry point at £245 the pair.

Framing something? A doorway, gate or path-end wants a matched pair with presence: lollipop standards lift a clipped head to eye level, while spirals turn an entrance into an event. Which topiary shape is easiest to look after?
Balls, comfortably. A sphere forgives a slightly uneven clip in a way a spiral never will, and on most species one trim a year holds the shape. Pencils are close behind — their natural habit is already vertical, so you're tidying rather than sculpting. Spirals, clouds and bonsai arrive fully formed; you maintain a line that's already there rather than creating one.
Which shape works best either side of a door?
The classic answer is a pair of lollipop standards — the clear stem lifts the clipped head to eye level, which reads beautifully against a door frame. Balls on the doorstep suit lower, wider porches. Can I get the same shape in different species?
Yes — that's exactly how the range is built. The form gives you the silhouette; the species gives you the character and the site tolerance. A ball in English yew is darkest green and thrives in shade; the same ball in photinia flushes red after every trim. Form first, then species to match your light and soil.
What does "matched pair" actually mean?
Two plants selected together at the nursery in Tuscany, grown side by side so their height, density and character develop in step, and photographed together at our UK depot before dispatch. How does delivery work, and what do the forms cost?
Pairs start at £245 (pencils) and run to £4,500 (specimen bonsai), with most classic entrance pairs between £270 and £935 — all prices include VAT and are for the pair, never per plant. Delivery is kerbside pallet, UK-wide, in 14–21 working days, and the driver calls about an hour ahead.
