Section One

About ourtopiary pairs.

What a pair actually is, where the plants come from, and how old they are.

What makes a “pair” different from buying two individual plants?

A pair is chosen as a pair, not assembled afterwards from two plants that happen to share a species and a size. We match on height, canopy diameter, density and growth habit, then designate the two specimens together at the nursery so they are inspected, documented and shipped as one unit. The guarantee we publish is a maximum height difference of 10cm between the two plants, measured soil line to apex, alongside matching width and form. Buying two plants separately gets you two good plants; it does not get you symmetry, because nobody has ever compared them to each other. Our fuller explanation of how we match, and of the tighter internal target we set our growers, is on the Topiary Twins Difference page.

Where are your topiary plants grown?

In Holland and Italy, at specialist topiary nurseries — mostly family-run operations with several generations of practice behind them. Every specimen travels with an EU plant passport and full phytosanitary documentation. Plants are then inspected and held at our UK nursery before dispatch, so they arrive acclimatised rather than going straight from a European field to a British doorstep.

Why source from Europe rather than British nurseries?

Because the depth of specialisation is there, and we could not find it here. Growers in Holland and Italy hold multi-generational expertise in cultivation, growth management and architectural shaping, and just as importantly they hold mature stock, 8 to 15 years old, in the forms and sizes people actually want either side of a door. We searched the UK wholesale market at length and could not find nurseries with comparable specialisation in premium topiary at that maturity. It is the same reason anyone buys a craft from where the tradition runs deepest.

Are your plants suitable for the UK climate?

Yes. Every species we sell is hardy in British conditions, and specimens are acclimatised at our UK nursery before dispatch rather than shipped straight from a European field. Ilex crenata, Taxus baccata, Ligustrum delavayanum and Cupressus sempervirens are all proven performers in UK gardens. Written care guidance comes with every order, including winter protection where a species or a site needs it, and Lifetime Care Support by email is free for as long as you have the plants.

What species do you offer?

Four evergreens do most of the work, chosen for year-round architectural presence: Japanese Holly (Ilex crenata), English Yew (Taxus baccata), Delavay Privet (Ligustrum delavayanum) and Italian Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens). The collection carries other evergreens from season to season as growers release them, so availability varies by form and by size. Browse the topiary collection to see what is in stock now, or email hello@topiarytwins.co.uk with a specific requirement and we will tell you what is realistic.

What forms and shapes are available?

Balls, Lollipops, Spirals, Clouds, Pom Poms, Bonsai, Pencils and Cubes. Each form comes in several sizes and, usually, more than one species, because the right answer depends as much on the architecture behind the plant as on the plant itself. If you are not sure which form suits your entrance, the Plant Finder asks eight questions about your space and shows you the matches, or you can book a complimentary 30-minute consultation and talk it through with someone.

How old are the plants?

Our specimens are 8 to 15 years old on arrival. The maturity is the point: the density and structure of a clipped form take years to build, and you are buying those years as much as you are buying the plant. It is also why lead times run to 14–21 working days rather than next day — these are not plants pulled off a warehouse shelf, they are specific specimens found, matched and inspected for your order.

Do you only sell pairs?

No, though matched pairs remain the heart of what we do. The range also includes Border by the Metre for hedging runs, Entrance Transformation bundles for a whole doorway at once, and the Architectural Collection for larger schemes. Browse the topiary collection to see the current range. If you need a single specimen for a particular spot, email hello@topiarytwins.co.uk and we will tell you honestly whether we can help or point you towards a specialist who can.

Section Two

Orderingand pricing.

What the price covers, how you can pay, and where the discounts are.

What is included in the price?

Two hand-matched specimens in grower pots; free kerbside pallet delivery to UK mainland; the EU plant passport and phytosanitary documentation; written care instructions; the 10cm Matching Guarantee; the 6-month Thrive Guarantee; and Lifetime Care Support by email for as long as you own the plants. Decorative pots are not included — grower pots are what the plants travel in, and they are what keeps them stable on the pallet. Email hello@topiarytwins.co.uk if you would like recommendations for pot suppliers.

Do prices include VAT?

The price you see is the price you pay. We are not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is added at checkout and there is no tax line waiting at the end of the order. Delivery to UK mainland is free; Scottish Highlands, islands and some remote postcodes may carry a surcharge, which is calculated automatically at checkout before you commit to anything.

Do you offer payment plans or financing?

Klarna is available at checkout if you would rather spread the cost. We also accept major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Trade customers and project buyers can email sales@topiarytwins.co.uk to discuss payment terms on larger or phased orders, where a deposit and balance arrangement is often more practical than a single payment up front.

Can I get a discount for larger orders?

Yes, by two different doors. Project and volume pricing starts at a minimum of four pairs and is quoted within 24–48 hours — see the bulk orders page, or email sales@topiarytwins.co.uk with what the scheme needs. If you specify plants for a living, trade membership is a better fit: £200 a year for 30% off everything we sell, website pricing and bespoke quotes alike, which a single order over £670 has already paid for.

Section Three

Deliveryand arrival.

Where we deliver, how long it takes, and what actually turns up at your gate.

Where do you deliver?

UK mainland, free. Scottish Highlands, islands and some remote postcodes may carry an additional charge, calculated automatically at checkout. We are unable to deliver to Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland because of plant health regulations, and that is not something we can work around on an individual order. Full delivery terms are on the delivery and returns page.

How long does delivery take?

14–21 working days from order confirmation, or 21–28 days in peak season, February to May, and on orders of ten pairs or more. The time goes on real work: sourcing and inspecting the specific plants in Europe, the phytosanitary paperwork and plant passports, consolidated transport to the UK, then the final courier leg. We cannot confirm a delivery date until the pair has passed our Mirror Matching and Quality Inspection here in the UK. Please do not book contractors, landscapers or tradespeople until your delivery date is confirmed in writing.

When is the best time to plant topiary?

Autumn, September to November, and early spring, March to April, are ideal, because roots establish without summer heat stress or hard winter frost working against them. That said, topiary can go in year-round in the UK and we deliver all year. Avoid planting into frozen or waterlogged ground, avoid a drought week, water thoroughly through the first season, and the plant will not much care which month it went in. The planting guide has the step-by-step detail.

How are the plants packaged?

On a wooden pallet, upright, and never boxed. Plants are secured to the pallet, watered before they leave, and wrapped in protective sheeting for the journey, which is how mature specimens travel without losing their form. Delivery is by pallet courier. Tracking details are emailed to you the moment your order is dispatched.

What if my plants arrive damaged?

Photograph the plants and the packaging before you move anything, then email hello@topiarytwins.co.uk with the subject line Delivery Damage. Obvious physical damage must be reported within 24 hours of delivery; latent issues discovered before planting within 7 days. We will arrange a replacement or a refund. Do not dispose of the packaging until the claim is settled, because the courier may need to see it. The full inspection windows are set out on the delivery and returns page.

Will the delivery driver help with placement?

No — delivery is kerbside only. The pallet courier delivers to your kerbside, driveway or the nearest accessible flat surface, and is not insured to enter your property or move plants beyond that point. The driver usually calls about an hour ahead. Arrange help for delivery day before your plants arrive, particularly for the larger sizes. If you authorise a safe-place delivery at checkout you take on responsibility for inspecting the plants promptly, and the terms for that are on the delivery and returns page.

How heavy are the plants?

It varies a great deal with size. Small pairs, 60 to 80cm, typically weigh 20–30kg combined. Large pairs, 120cm and over, can weigh 60–100kg combined. That is worth checking before you plan a balcony, a roof terrace or any other weight-sensitive surface, and worth arranging a second pair of hands for on delivery day, since everything is left at kerbside.

Section Four

Returnsand guarantees.

What we promise, what is excluded, and exactly how to claim.

What is your return policy?

Living plants are perishable goods, so the standard 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply to them, and your statutory rights for faulty or misdescribed goods remain fully protected. What we do offer is specific: if a pair arrives damaged, fails our matching standard, or shows signs of poor health, tell us within 7 days of delivery with photographs. A replacement is the standard remedy. A full refund is available on request and is processed within 5–7 working days to the original payment method. The full returns terms are on the delivery and returns page.

What is the Matching Guarantee?

The two plants in a pair will not differ in height by more than 10cm, measured soil line to apex, and they are matched for canopy width, density and overall form as well. If the pair that arrives does not meet that standard, email photographs to hello@topiarytwins.co.uk within 7 days of delivery, with the subject line Matching Guarantee Claim. Claims are resolved within 24 hours: a replacement pair is standard, and a full refund is available on request, processed within 5–7 working days. The fuller explanation of how we match, and of what 10cm looks like at a normal viewing distance, is on the Topiary Twins Difference page.

What is the Thrive Guarantee?

If one plant in your pair does not thrive within 6 months of delivery despite our care guidance being followed, we replace it and invoice the replacement at 50% of its single-plant price. Email photographs to hello@topiarytwins.co.uk with the subject line Thrive Guarantee Claim, and eligibility is reviewed within 48 hours. Both plants failing is excluded, because that points to the site or the care rather than to the plants. Care-related issues, and pest or disease damage occurring after delivery, are also excluded. The complete exclusions are on the delivery and returns page.

What if I need to cancel my order before delivery?

Email hello@topiarytwins.co.uk as soon as you can — the earlier you tell us, the more we can refund. Cancel within 24 hours of ordering and you get a full refund. After sourcing has begun but before dispatch, we refund minus the costs already incurred on your behalf, typically 15–30% and itemised on request: grower fees, inspections, transport bookings and phytosanitary certificates are real money spent before anything is loaded. Once the pallet has been dispatched, a cancellation cannot be accepted. Full cancellation terms are on the delivery and returns page.

Do you offer plant health advice after delivery?

Yes, and it costs nothing. Lifetime Care Support is complimentary for the life of your plants, with no time limit and no expiry. Email photographs and a description of what you are seeing to hello@topiarytwins.co.uk with the subject line Care Question, and you will have an answer within 24 hours. It is email support: we do not make on-site visits or provide hands-on assistance, and living plants are always subject to environmental variables we cannot see from a photograph. For most pest and disease questions, the pest and disease management guide will get you there faster than we can.

Section Five

Trade andprofessional services.

For people who specify plants, and for schemes bigger than one doorway.

Do you offer trade discounts?

Yes. Trade membership is £200 a year and takes 30% off everything we sell, on website pricing and bespoke quotes alike, with no minimum order and no excluded lines, so a single order over £670 has already covered the fee. Members also get priority allocation through the February to May peak, when lead times stretch and sizes run short, and a dedicated trade contact who answers within 24 hours. Landscape architects, garden designers, interior designers and property developers are all welcome. The terms are on the Trade Members Program page.

Can you supply topiary for commercial projects?

Yes. We supply hotels, restaurants, offices and residential developments, and can handle specifications, volume pricing, phased delivery and consolidated shipping to multiple sites on a single invoice. Project pricing starts at a minimum of four pairs, and quotes come back within 24–48 hours. Email sales@topiarytwins.co.uk with the project detail, or start from the bulk orders page, which sets out how the volume tiers work.

Do you offer installation services?

No — we deliver, we do not plant. Delivery is kerbside pallet, so plan for help to move and position the plants when they arrive, particularly at the larger sizes. If you would like a recommendation for a landscape contractor in your area, email hello@topiarytwins.co.uk and we will suggest someone if we know anyone working near you. The planting guide covers the job itself if you or your gardener would rather do it directly.

Section Six

Contactand support.

Who to email, how fast we reply, and what happens before your pair is dispatched.

How do I contact you?

Two addresses, so your message lands with the right person first time. Use hello@topiarytwins.co.uk for general enquiries, orders and customer care. Use sales@topiarytwins.co.uk for trade accounts, bulk orders and projects. We reply within 24 hours to both. If you would rather not open your email client, there is a short form on the contact page that reaches exactly the same inbox.

Can I book a consultation?

Yes, and it is free. Consultations run 30 minutes, by phone or video, and cover your dimensions, the architecture you are working with, your preferences and your timescale, ending with specific recommendations rather than a sales pitch. It is a service that would ordinarily be valued at £150, offered complimentary and with no obligation to buy, from us or from anyone else. Book on the consultation page and send photographs and measurements beforehand so the call starts further along.

Do you have a showroom?

No. We are online only, which is part of how the pricing works — there is no retail floor for you to pay for. What you get instead is specific to your order: before your pair is dispatched you receive a quality-control certificate, a record of the plants' origins and dimensions with six photographs of the actual specimens allocated to you. You have a 24-hour review window to come back to us with anything; if we hear nothing, dispatch proceeds as planned.

Can I track my order?

Yes. Tracking details are emailed to you the moment your order is dispatched, and that email is your tracking — there is no separate order-tracking page on this site. If you cannot find it, check your junk folder first, then email hello@topiarytwins.co.uk and we will resend it. Before dispatch there is nothing to track, because your plants are still being sourced, matched and inspected; that stage is covered by the quality-control certificate instead.
